Frank Speaks
A lifelong resident of St. Louis, I have been interested in art my whole life. Growing up as the son of a Master Portrait Photographer (PPA), I learned early on the importance of lighting and framing a scene to make the important elements stand out. Not being very athletic as a child, I did not have much interest in playing sports. Instead, I found inspiration by I riding my “Western Flyer” bicycle up Art Hill to hang out at the Art Museum on weekends.

The use of color and texture are important to me; they are my conduit to emotion. In each of my works, from landscapes and abstracts to my vintage vehicles or caricatures, my goal is to bring the viewer with me on a journey of discovery. Along the way I embrace the freedom to mix styles, use bold colors, and delve into both the familiar and the unknown.
I have experimented with many mediums from painting to photography, ceramics to sculpture. My favorite haunt, both as a child and now, is the St. Louis Art Museum. I have also always had a fascination with the grand lines of classic cars from the 40’s and 50’s, the era of my childhood. In my travels, I am constantly uplifted by the marvels of nature and creation. Some of the many artists and designers that have inspired me are Ansel Adams, Georgia O’Keefe, Ernest Trova, Raymond Lowey, Ben Shahn, and Frank Gehry.
“You can’t use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have.”
